Documenting My Learning

Taxonomy of Significant LearningFirst of all, let me say that I have no idea what I’m doing. This whole blogging thing is totally new to me. Blogging about Jesus? Again, totally new.

I created my blog on 10/4/13. I fooled with it and created a blog list, among other things, on this day. I created an about me page and a first post on 10/10/13. The first post was published on the morning of 10/11/13. The idea of the blog is “The journey of life with Jesus.” I collaborated with Nate Herbst on this. Nate is the head of the Connect ministry on campus and is well versed in apologetics. He gave many suggestions and ideas. Nate told me that the posts that get the most hits are the ones with numbers and controversial topics. I learned a lot from Nate about the various topics I could discuss. In talking with Nate, I was inquiring about a subject, as well as understanding and remembering information and ideas.

I am learning more about technology. How blogs work for example. Bill also gave us the goal of writing two 100-150 word blog posts every week. This extra writing, in addition to the responsibility of self-regulating or self-directing will help me become a better student as well as making me take more initiative; while the purpose of this blog was to fulfill an english assignment, it has become the perfect opportunity to share the gospel. This is a whole new ball of wax for me though. It’s a lot like preaching, I imagine. I’ll have to be very exacting and pay attention to detail. I will have to develop new writing skills in order to communicate what I want to say effectively. As far as thinking goes, I will have to think things through carefully. Creative thinking will have to come into play, so as to come up with new things and ways with which to share the gospel. New post ideas. Critical thinking will be necessary. Think through everything! make sure it makes sense! Practical thinking: what is going to connect with people? I will have to manage projects so as to have time to write and think through my posts. Make sure they will work.

In my posts and blog as a whole, connecting different things will be important for greater understanding. Connecting ideas will be important to maybe have people to see things in a new light. Connecting different people will give my readers someone to look for and maybe learn more about. The different realms of life will be incredibly important for my particular blog. Making the gospel relevant to people’s lives will be invaluable. In writing this blog and getting responses, I hope to develop new feelings for people and God. I hope to find new interests as things come up. Values as well. All of this is dependent on my blog being a scholarly conversation. If people contribute and participate, then we will all learn.

Finally, the human dimension. I hope that in writing about Jesus, I will perhaps discover more of my own thoughts on him. I also hope to see what others think about Jesus and what is happening in their lives and minds. I hope to learn more about God. I hope to learn more about people. I hope to learn more about blogging in general. I hope to learn more about writing.
