E.L. James was inspired by the fan fiction Twilight to write her own adult series 50 Shades of Grey….And it is FUCKED UP. This book and movie promotes domestic violence and rape. People try to argue that 50 Shades of Grey shines a fantastic light on the BDSM community. If you are very sheltered like I was and have no clue what BDSM is. It stands for Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism and Masochism. Bondage and Discipline means to be restrained psychological or physically. Submission means giving up power or control to the dominant. Sadism and Masochism is also referred as S/M. Sadism means someone enjoys giving pain and masochism means someone enjoys receiving pain. The pain can mean humiliation, one’s physical harm, or it could be a combination of both.
BDSM motto is safe, sane, and consensual. If you ever read the book or even seen the movie. You would know that the main character did not want to do any activity that involved pain. She was pressured into BDSM. The main character was a virgin before Grey took it. He tainted her.
The long-term effect of domestic violence can be physical and emotional problems. Abusers isolate the abused from their friends and family. In the book and movie Christian gets mad at Anna because she wanted to visit her own mother! He told her that She is His! He also said that he OWNS her. A monkey can see that is abuse. Christian forces Anna has to take a special kind of pill because he does not want to wear a condom. Anna has to put medication into her body to satisfy Christian.
When young women watch 50 Shades of Grey or read the book, they think that is how a relationship should be. People are looking for inspiriation That is when women start romanticizing abuse. If women want to get into the BDSM community they need to research what it is and what exactly happens. There is a clear line between abuse and BDSM.
The grave problem is when women think that relationships should be like this. Then future generations look at their role models and see what their parents are dealing with then its just a hot mess all around. BDSM and domestic violence are two very different things. Do your research! Movies and real life are two very different things. So stop trying to make you life out of movie.
